This is a great book. I love Lucy's no-nonsense way of calling for change in the educational system. The book has a well thought-out conceptual underpinning, years of applied wisdom to validate it, and plenty of examples of how to be a content coach.
Practical instruction, coach maneuvers, advise on avoiding common pitfalls, and other pearls of wisdom are woven throughout. In today's world of checklists, their emphasis on establishing defined teacher development goals is critical.
The Impact of Identity in K-8 Mathematics Learning and Teaching: Rethinking Equity-Based Practices
By: Julia Aguirre, Karen Mayfield-Ingram, & Danny Bernard Martin
The book encourages elementary school instructors to consider their own and their learners' many unique characteristics. When teachers use their identities to provide high-quality, equity-based instruction to all students, they open up a world of possibilities for learning. Reflecting on identity and reimagining learning and teaching through this perspective assists students who have been ostracized because of their color, class, ethnicity, or gender.
Excellent book that reinforces Mathematical Identity and the important role it plays in reaching all learners equitably. Highly recommend and I am using as one of my go-to books for district wide study.
Well written. Authors are clearly knowledgeable on the topic. They unpack some of the most critical elements of mathematics instruction - the “hidden rules” about mathematical privilege and access we tend to live by in the US and share practical ideas for making mathematics accessible to all students and developing equitable teaching practices.
